MURDER WEAPONS RECOVERED BY POLICE IN CANDOLIM CASE

Police on Thursday recovered the sword and knife used by the accused to murder Candolim-based hotelier Vishwajit Singh earlier this week.
 
Singh, who was working as the manager of a hotel at Bamonvaddo in Candolim, was assaulted by two accused with the sword and knife at around 1.30am on Tuesday in the parking area of an apartment complex where he was residing in Candolim, resulting in his death.
 
Based on CCTV footage, Calangute police had identified the two accused as Umesh Lamani and Daya Shankar.
The duo after committing the crime had fled to Gadag, Karnataka, but were later traced within hours and arrested by Gadag police. They were later brought to Calangute police station. On Wednesday, the accused were remanded to eight days police custody.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said during the interrogation of the duo on Thursday, they revealed the place where they had hidden the weapons used in the crime. A two-wheeler used by the accused to flee from the spot after committing the crime has also been attached by the police.
