The Cinephile Film Club of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) will be screening Japanese film ‘The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice’ (Ochazuke no aji) on Thursday, August 16 at 6:30 pm. The screening will be hosted by renowned film critic Sachin Chatte.

The film is directed by Yasujirô Ozu and the duration of the film is 1hr 55 minutes.

Directed by Ozu, one of the greatest film makers of all time, the script for this film was written well before he actually shot the film – the project was shelved in 1940 due to military censorship and was resurrected a decade later. The story revolves around a middle-aged and childless couple in Tokyo who are going through the motions of marriage.

While he is a simpleton, she is looking for a more exciting lifestyle. The arrival of their much-loved niece who is of marriageable age changes their lives. Although the film was not among Ozu’s favourites, it is has been highly appreciated over the years for its humour, touching story, remarkable characters and study of relationships.
