Goa Police on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old Nigerian national for allegedly possessing drugs worth Rs 45,000 in international market.
According to Calangute Police Station Incharge Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi, the accused Stephen, a native of Abuja, Nigeria, was arrested during a narcotic raid conducted on August 30 at Baga, Calangute.
Dalvi said that a reliable information was received regarding the accused Nigerian person coming at Tito’s lane, Baga, along with some drugs for delivery to prospective customers. A team was formed and the police waited at Baga Calangute in civil clothes. Upon seeing the accused coming at the spot, the police rounded him up. The accused made initial efforts to run away from the spot, however, the police staff detained him at the spot using minimum force.
During the personal search, the accused was found in possession of Ganja worth Rs 15,000 and Charas worth Rs 30,000 in the international market.
The accused was brought at the police station and placed under arrest. An offence under section 20(b)(ii)(A) of NDPS Act, 1985, was registered.
During the interrogation, the accused Nigerian was found to be staying in Goa without any valid passport or visa. Hence, a complaint is forwarded to Mapusa Police Station for appropriate legal action under the provisions of Foreigners Act, 1948.
