Calangute Police have arrested a 21-year-old man from Karnataka for illegally possessing Ganja worth Rs 45,000.

According to Calangute Police Station Incharge PI Jivba Dalvi, information was received regarding the accused person coming to deliver drugs to prospective customers at Sauntavado, Baga, on Thursday night.

Accordingly, a team was formed and the police staff camped at Baga area from 2100 hrs. Further, at around 10:30 pm, the accused person, Praveen (21), son of Irappa Neelappagol, native of Hebbal, Belgavi, Karnataka, was noticed standing near a general store at Baga.

Immediately he was rounded up and detained at the spot. Further his personal search was conducted and he was found in possession of Ganja. The Ganja was seized and attached under the panchanama by the police. The seized Ganja was worth Rs 45,000 in the international market.

An offence under section 20(b)(ii)(A) of NDPS Act, 1985. The raiding team consisted of PI Jivba Dalvi, PSI Rushikesh Patil and police constables Dinesh Morajkar, Govind Shirodkar, Vallabh Pednekar, Vinod Kerkar. Further investigation was in progress, Mr Dalvi said.
