Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Tuesday stated that fish import cannot be banned as it is the staple food of Goans. He has demanded Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to revoke the ban on import of fish.

“There can be stringent checks at the border on fish stocks being brought into the state, but that doesn’t mean we have to completely ban import of fish,” Lobo told reporters.

Lobo further said that fish prices in the markets have shot up and have severely affected the businesses of restaurants and hotels.
