TCP minister Vijai Sardesai has warned the individuals who had purchased plots in orchard zone and constructed on the land, of legal action if they fail to apply for conversion by January 1, 2019.

“Those who fail to apply for conversion under Section 16B of TCP Act would face criminal proceedings,” Sardesai said.

Sardesai further said that the TCP department can act even tomorrow since the law is already existing but they are giving a time gap so that people can officially apply for zone change under the new notification and amendment.

It is learnt that so far 18 applications for zone change have been approved, mostly from religious and educational institutions.
