PANAJI
The state must impose community service as a form of punishment on those who are caught drinking or littering in public places, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) vice-chairman Sidharth Kuncalienkar said on Thursday.
“Instead of imposing fines and imprisoning people for such acts, they should be awarded community service like cleaning the streets, public toilets etc,” said Kuncalienkar.
Kuncalienkar further said that in this manner the person will not only realise his mistake but will also have a chance to give back to society.
The former Panaji MLA was speaking at the inauguration of the revamped Souza Garden in Panaji.
“Spitting, urinating or drinking in public spaces are societal issues which cannot be curbed by just imposing monetary fines,” said Kuncalienkar.
