NITISH BELURKAR RETAINS THE TITLE

Geno Pharmaceuticals Brand Ambassador FM Nitish Belurkar of Tiswadi Taluka won the 3rd Kanchanibai Prabhudesai Memorial Chess Rolling trophy with cash prize of Rs 8000/-, thus retaining his title for a second consecutive time.

In the last round, he defeated Colaco Vernon Jesus with black pieces to remain undefeated with 8.5 points from 9 rounds.

Earlier, in the 7th round Nitish was held in a draw by Ritviz Parab but as Ritviz was upset by Niraj Saripalli in the 8th round & Niraj was held by Devsesh Naik in the last round, Nitish went on to retain the championship.

Parsekar Anirudh of Mourmugao Taluka finished 2nd with 7.5 points after he won against Vraj Porob in a complicated rook ending position.

Niraj Saripalli of Salcete Taluka secured the 3rd position after he was held by Devesh Anand Naik of Ponda Taluka in the final round.

The tournament was jointly organised by Unique Chess Academy & Banavali Chess Club under the affiliation of Salcete Taluka Chess Association & Goa Chess Association which concluded smoothly at Multipurpose School hall, Borda Margao Goa on 27th & 28th December under the guidance of (Chief Arbiter) Sanjay Kavlekar, Swapnil Hoble(deputy arbiter) & Gautam Tari(deputy arbiter)

Attractive prizes were given in different categories.
