MAPUSA

In order to detain foreign nationals who are overstaying in Goa after the expiry of their visa, the Goa govt has started a detention centre in Mapusa.

The detention centre has been started after converting old sub-jail in Mapusa, a senior police officer informed.

“We have set up all the facilities there but the recruitment of staff is pending. The inauguration is tentatively scheduled on January 26,” Superintendent of Police Bosco George said.

The Social Welfare Department has been asked to recruit staff for the detention centre, he added.
