Panaji (Goa): The post of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch, of as many as 125Village Panchayats, are reserved for women on rotation basis.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Government has reserved a totalof 63 posts of Sarpanch and 62 posts of Deputy Sarpanch for women.

Of the total 63 posts of Sarpanch reserved for women, 32 Panchayats are inNorth Goa, and 31 are in the South.

Similarly, the post of Deputy Sarpanch is reserved for women in 33Panchayats in North Goa, and another 29 Panchayats in the South.

The elections for 186 Panchayats are scheduled to take place on June 11.

“The reservation of offices of Sarpanches and Dy. Sarpanches for womenshall be allotted by rotation during every subsequent general election tothe Village Panchayats, as specified,” Panchayat Director Sandhya Kamatsaid.
