AWARD WINNING SHORT FILMS TO BE SCREENED BY CINEPHILE FILM CLUB AT ESG

This Thursday, Feb 7 at 6.30 p.m. the Cinephile Film Club in association with the Film Critics Guild brings to you the winners and nominees of the Critics Choice Short Film Awards that were held recently.

The Film Critics Guild (FCG) is a registered body with critics from all over the country with Anupama Chopra as the Chairperson and Rajeev Masand as the Vice Chairperson and the short film awards was one of the first initiative taken up by the Guild. 

Over 500 entries from around the country were received and the FCG voted for the winners in different categories. A gritty film on the state of farmers in Maharashtra, Sambhavtaha directed by Gaurav Madan won four of awards including best film, actor, writer and director. The film has been screened at many festivals and has several won laurels. The story of homegrown rooster, Tungrus, directed by Rishi Chandna won the best film and best direction in the non-fiction category. Screened at more than a dozen international festivals, including the BFI London film festival, it also won the best editing for Neha Mehra an FTII graduate who has also won a National award. The other films to be screened include Black Cat (Best cinematography and music score) based on a story by Ruskin Bond, Maa (best actress, Kani Kusruti), a mother-daughter story MAD (nominated for best film, actress direction) and Last Day of Summer (nominated for best film, writing and background score).  

The following films will be screened which will be introduced by Sachin Chatte –

Sambhavtaa  (21 mins, Dir. Gaurav Madan) – Winner of best film, actor, writer and director

Tungrus (13 mins, Dir. Rishi Chandna) – Winner of best film and best direction (non-fiction) and best editing.

Black Cat (22 mins. Dir Bhargav Saikia) Winner of best score and cinematography

Maa (26 mins, Dir Sarjun) Winner of best actress (Kani Kusruti).

Last Day of Summer (20 mins, Dir. George Kora) Nominated for best film, writer and background score.

MAD (21 mins Dir. Vinod Rawat) Nominated for best film, direction and actress.
