Panaji (Goa): A day after BJP slammed Congress stating it has lost credibility, the Indian National Congress (INC) took a pot-shot at the saffron party recalling the fact that recent State assembly elections gave them the mandate that saw BJP’s seven sitting Ministers including Chief Minister facing embarrassing defeat.
The statement comes two days after BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, who was in Goa to highlight three-years of Narendra Modi led government’s achievements, said that Congress has lost credibility and people don’t want to get associated with them.
The statement was strongly countered by Congress on Monday, who claimed BJP had no achievements or performance to their credit in last three years and hence speaking about Congress party which is ‘unfounded’.
“BJP should understand and remember that the mandate given by the people during the just held Assembly election was against them,” Congress media cell chairman Adv Yatish Naik told media persons.
“Seven of their sitting Ministers were shown the door. This including the then sitting Chief Minister who faced the most embarrassing defeat. This has never happened in the history of Goa politics,” he commented.
BJP’s then chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar faced the humiliating defeat when he lost the assembly election by more than seven thousand votes against Congress’ Dayanand Sopte from Mandrem constituency.
The six other ministers who lost include Dilip Parulekar (tourism), Mahadev Naik (industries), Rajendra Arlekar (forest), Ramesh Tawadkar (sports), Dayanand Mandrekar (WRD) and Deepak Dhavalikar (Factories and Boilers).
