Panaji (Goa) A complaint has today been filed by Adv. Aires Rodrigues with the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) over the utter chaos and lack of infrastructure at the Cujira Educational complex.
In his complaint Adv. Aires Rodrigues has stated that in flagrant violation of the Human Rights of the students and their parents, many Panaji based educational institutions have been shifted to Cujira in a very haphazard manner without proper planning.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that it was very distressing that some of the schools have been compelled to shift in incomplete buildings without even the proper infrastructure in place while the authorities have allowed occupancy in unfinished buildings.
Pointing out that ongoing works in some of the buildings is posing a health risk to the students studying in it, Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that it was extremely appalling that some of the schools even lack the required furniture, with three students packed on a bench meant for two.
Drawing the attention of the GHRC that the move to shift the educational institutions to Cujira was initiated in the year 2000, Adv. Rodrigues in his complaint has stated that it was horrendous that despite 17 long years the authorities have not been able to plan even the basic traffic management including access roads.
Adv. Rodrigues has also stated that with thousands of students now studying at the Cujira Complex it was imperative that for the safety of the students and their parents there should be a fully manned police outpost on site operating at least during school hours.
Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that it was very essential that an emergency ambulance be stationed and first aid facilities be made available at the Cujira complex.
Adv. Rodrigues in his complaint has sought that the Chief Secretary, Director of Education, Chief Town Planner and the Director General of Police be directed to explain what immediate steps they plan to take to remedy the chaos at Cujira Complex so that the Human Rights of the students and their parents are not further violated.
