Panaji (Goa): Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Luizinho Faleiroon Tuesday urged the party High command to relieve him from the post.
The move comes following mounting pressure from MLAs for change in leaders after party failed to form the government under Faleiro leadership despite gaining majority during the recently held polls.
Faleiro this evening held meeting with AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi requesting to accept his resignation, which he had tendered way back in October 2015.
“I had meeting with party high command and perceived my resignation with them. I was told to take the charge during that crucial period and to build the party. I did my job and accordingly I had tendered my resignation,” Faleiro said.
The party president further said ” the high command however is not ready to relieve me..but I have tried to convince them”.
Faleiro was appointed as party President in August 2014.
The Congress State unit is bracing up for fresh organizational election including elections for the post of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) new President, in phase manner beginning from July.
