FIVE PEOPLE DROWNED IN RIVER

Pune: Five persons including three children were drowned in Shiravali river in Raigad District of Maharashtra.

The incident happened today morning at khalapur when two women along with three children went to the river side for washing the clothes. While the women were washing clothes, the children were taking bath when they were swept away.

Khalapur Police said that three children and two women drowned in Shiravali river in Raigad around 8 am on Wednesday.

The children had been bathing in the river when the current swept them away. The women were washing clothes nearby. They jumped into the river to save their children and drowned. Their bodies recovered.

The victims are Menakshi Vaknis (30), Shubham Vaknis (7), Gauri Arte (35), Tejaswini Arte (11) and Tushar Arte (7). Police registered a case of accidental death.
