Ivana Furtado, Asian Chess Junior Gold medallist, was the centre of attraction at the inaugural of the L ate Shripad Vishnu Kamat Tarcar Memorial State Women’s Chess Championship 2017. Ivana, invited as the Chief Guest, was cheerfully greeted by the participants who were all excited as they took pictures and selfies with her. The Tarcar Memorial Committee felicitated Ivana on her outstanding feat. Kishor Bandekar, Hon. Secretary, Goa Chess Association, Mahesh Candolkar, President, Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association, Chaitanya Tarcar and Sandeep Heble, organising promoters, Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter, and GCA Executive members Vasant Naik and D.R. Pinge graced the occasion. At the end of Round one, Swera Braganca, Riddhi Zantye, Gauri Hadkonkar, Tanvi Hadkonkar, Gunjal Chopdekar, Alaina Pereira, Faiziya Khan, Sankriti Naik Sayuri Naik, Netra Savoikar and Snehal Naik were the top rated players in joint lead with 1 point each. The championship is being held at the Media Centre, Athletics stadium, Bambolim under the aegis / collaboration of Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association, Goa Chess Association & the Sports Authority of Goa.
