The Manohar Parrikar led coalition government is all set to lift the six month old recruitment ban in government as well as government-aided departments, imposed by his predecessor, by this month end. In the first phase recruitments ban in educational institutions, of doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians will be lifted next week.

Just ahead of 2017 polls, the then Laxmikant Parsekar government though a notification on November 22, 2016 imposed ban on all recruitment in the government sector for smoother implementation of the Seventh pay commission to its employees. The decision affected nearly 1400 recruitment in various departments- in most of the cases where procedures had even been completed. The ban was supposed to be reviewed in six months.

Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister Parrikar said that by this month end, all employment oriented issues would be settled, with government planning to come out with a policy on recruitment in government sector.

“In the first phase, next week, I will lift the ban imposed on recruitments in educational institutions, grant-in-aid institutions, recruitments of doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians. I have already issued the order in this regard. The file is yet to be put back to me,” he said.

“In case of rest departments, the examination is on. Considering the requirements in each department, on case to case basis, the ban will be lifted,” Parrikar said.

It is been learnt that newly inducted coalition Ministers have already discussed the matter with Chief Minister, who has assured to look into the matter at the earliest.

The ban on recruitment’s was one of the key factor that led to split of the then alliance partner BJP and MGP just before polls, with MGP Ministers Sudin and Deepak Dhavalikar expressing their resentment over the move. The decision, is also considered as one of the fact that also went against BJP during the recent elections, when the party was reduced to 13 seats from 21.

MGP is now back as coalition partners in BJP government with Sudin continuing to hold cabinet berth.

As per an official memorandum issued by the Personnel department last year, all the recruitment processes were cancelled with immediate effect. The instructions were applicable to all types of recruitment’s including regular, temporary, daily wage and contract labour. “In order to ensure that there is sufficient adequacy of funds for payment of enhanced salaries and pension, so that implementation of recommendation of Seventh pay commission is carried out in smoother manner, it is required to put a halt to all the recruitment process in the government departments as well as government aided institutions,” the memorandum had stated.
