Panaji (GOA): Ahead of State Revolution Day on June 18, the Former Congress Union Minister Eduardo Faleiro has urged State Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant to have a gallery of portraits of Goa’s freedom fighters, who fought mercilessly for the State’s freedom from Portuguese rule.
Addressing media persons on Friday, Faleiro said that there are several freedom fighters right from Dr TB Cunha to Ram Manohar Lohia, Julio Menezes, Purshottam Kakodkar, who sacrificed their lives for Goa’s freedom.
“As mark of respect to these great leaders, I urge Speaker of the State Assembly to display a gallery of portraits of these freedom fighters in the Assembly hall,” he demanded.
“It is very important that the memory and teachings of the leaders of our Freedom movement should inspire people and future generation,”Faleiro stated.
Congress leader recalled that in 2011, on his demand, a portrait of Dr TB da Cunha was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament on December 19- while celebrating the 50 years of Goa’s liberation from the Portuguese colonial rule.
He said that a similar request was made to the Speaker in 2011, however, no steps were taken in that directions till now.
