TEJPAL CASE: COURT ORDERS IN-CAMERA TRIAL

Mapusa (Goa): Former Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka Tarun Tejpal today remained present before Goa court where the arguments before charges are going on in connection with the rape case filed against him.

Special Court at Mapusa town heard arguments before charges in connection with the rape charges filed against Tejpal. A lady journalist had complained of a rape against him during an event in Goa in the year 2013.

When the proceedings began today, Judge Vijaya Pol allowed the application filed by Tejpal’s lawyer under section 327 (3) of CrPC barring the media from covering them (the proceedings).

All the mediapersons were sent out of the court during the arguments. A lawyer representing Tejpal said that the arguments will continue tomorrow morning.

The chargesheet was filed against Tejpal in the year 2014 by Goa Crime branch. The investigating officer Sunita Sawant has charged Tejpal under sections 354, 354-A (sexual harassment), 341 and 342 (wrongful restrain), 376 (rape), 376(2)(f) and 376 (2)(k) (takes advantage of his official position and commits rape on a woman in his custody).
