MERCES (GOA): The Merces Manch Welfare Association (MMWA) has condemned the armed attack on Mumbai tourists including women and children, as well as the damage to their charter tourist bus on June 14. “The incident has brought disgrace to the village of Merces,” said Jose Carmino Joao, MMWA general secretary.

Joao stated that such types of anti-social elements should not get encouragement from any source. The notorious characters and habitual offenders in the village should be on police radar and their activities should be constantly monitored, which will help avoiding similar incidents in future.

MMWA further stated that the government should also act against so called tourist touts, who are bringing a bad name to the tourism industry of Goa. The Goa Tourism Department should initiate master plan and train more guides to have an organised system.
