Panaji (Goa): At the backdrop of statement by right wing leader Sadhvi Saraswati to hang the people who eat beef, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, without naming her, said action would be taken against anyone who is trying to promoted lawlessness in the State.

“There are some sections which habitually raise some issues often which has no relation to Goa. State government has already given clarity on these issues. We will abide the law,” Parrikar said addressing the state level function held to commemorate Goa Revolution Day.

“There is no harm if anyone practices the things which are legally allowed. But if anyone tries to do things which are not permissible in the law, strict action would be taken against them,” the Chief Minister said, in an apparent reference to the statement by Sadhvi Saraswati during recently held All India Hindu Convention.

Parrikar said there is a clarity in thoughts with the government on the issue. “There may be a confusion amongst people (on the issue). Some confusions have been created purposely, some confusions arise due to ignorance,” he said.

“There is no need for the chief minister to give statement on all the issues,” he said, repeatedly avoiding the name the issue during his speech.

Meanwhile, Parrikar said that the state government aims to make Goa “plastic-free” and “garbage-free” by next June 18.

“It is for the people to make Goa plastic and garbage free by June 18 next year. Let’s take a pledge towards it,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced that state government would be making it mandatory to have dust bins in the buses to avoid people throwing bottles on the road.

“These bins would be then cleared at each bus station,” he added.
