Panaji  (Goa): The interim relief to former chief minister Digambar Kamat and mine owner Haresh Melwani continues with the district court adjourning their anticipatory bail applications to July 4.

When the two matters came up hearing today, social activist Kashinath Shetye filed intervention petition leading to adjournment.

Kamat and Melwani besides many others including some former politicians, mining companies and individuals contractors are being probed into multi crore mining scam, which was exposed by Justice M B Shah Commission in its report. As many years as 13 cases are currently under probe by the special investigation team of crime branch.

The Congress’ Margao legislator had applied for anticipatory bail on being summoned for the second time last month in the scam comprising of 183-mining leases. Kamat has come under the scanner since he held mining portfolio for 12 long years and the alleged scam occurred when he was also the CM from 2007-2012 year. In his petition, the ex-CM has refused all allegations arguing these attempts ate a political vendetta against him by the BJP led coalition.

Melwani on the other hand is among eight directors of different mining firms being quizzed in the scam.

The SIT had last weekend raided the office premises of another mining director Arjun Salgaocar after he applied for anticipatory bail in the case.
