Pune: After lull of three days, monsoon will revive within the next 48 hours across the state according to scientists at India Meteorological Department Pune. Konkan will witness heavy rainfall while other parts will see normal rainfall.
Except for the coastal region of Konkan, the state including Pune and Mumbai witnessed almost negligible monsoon in the last three days since Sunday. However monsoon will revive after 48 hours across state including Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Konkan and Goa will witness heavy rainfall while other parts of the state will see regular rainfall, according to IMD scientists.
A K Srivastava, senior scientist, IMD, Pune, said, “there is no particular reason of why it is not raining for the last two days. As we know, not all 120 days of four months of monsoon see rain. It rains for hardly 40 days of all four months of monsoon. Sometime rain is heavy, extremely heavy or normal. So there is not specific reason of why we there is no rain. But we are expecting revival of monsoon in the next 48 hours.”
He added, “The active monsoon for the last a couple of days was due to the off shore through from south Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast, which has become weakened. But situation over the Bay of Bengal is improving and we see more cloudiness and convection over the Bay of Bengal. That will strengthen the westerlies that will lead to revival of monsoon.”
According to him, western ghat sections have been witnessing rainfall however other parts of the state were dry. But the situation will improve within 48 hours.
Meanwhile central Maharashtra recorded the highest rainfall in the last few days and other subdivisions also recorded considerable rainfall. Pune recorded 164.1 mm rainfall since June 1, Solapur has received 219.7 mm and Jalgoan got 198.8mm. Mumbai has received 195.8 mm.
