Margao (Goa): State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today inspected the old building of hospicio hospital asking the officials to take precautionary steps.
A 30-year-old lady who had come to visit a patient in this hospital in Margao town was injured when a railing from second floor had come crashing down on her.
“I have inspected the building and asked the officials to cordon off the part which is in dilapidated state,” Rane said.
He said State run Goa Infrastructure development corporation officials also accompanied him during his visit this morning.
The south goa district hospital is located in Portuguese era building. The work on new building has begun and the hospital is expected to be shifted in December to that premises.
Rane said that the work of securing all the areas which are weak would be completed within 8-10 days.
The minister also ordered closure of the kidney dialysis unit which is operational on the second floor of the building and operated by a private firm.
“All steps are taken to ensure safety of the patients and people visiting this hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, the health minister has also directed the authorities to dispose off the unclaimed dead bodies which are left in the morgue of this hospital. “Due to these bodies, there is no additional space in the morgue. I have asked that these bodies should be disposed off immediately,” he said.
