Panaji (GOA): The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) will be meeting on Wednesday to shortlist the candidates for the Panaji and Valpoi by-elections, which are due in next three months.

The meeting is going to the first interaction of MLAs with party president Luizinho Faleiro, who in his resignation tendered last week has blamed “some senior leader” for his decision stating that ‘those leaders feel his continuation as hindrance in the government formation’.

Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar confirmed that CLP meeting scheduled on Wednesday will shortlist the candidates for Panjim and Valpoi by-elections and the same would be submitted to High Command for the decision.

“We would be proposing names of probable candidate to the High Command for the decision,” he said.

Sources say that Atanasio Monserrate will be re-entering into the party as their Panjim candidate against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar while Roy Naik, son of MLA Ravi Naik, will be fielded against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in Valpoi.

CLP will also discuss strategy to corner the Government during the monsoon session, which will have detail discussion on Governor’s address and Budget 2017-18.

The fortnight long monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly will commence from July 18.

The meeting will also resolve that government should immediate withdraw the circular debarring  the government officials from attending the meetings convened by the public representatives at their residence or office premise, except for Ministers who hold meeting in their official residence.

The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) led by Chandrakant Kavalekar would be meeting the UPA led opposition’s Presidential candidate Meira Kumari on June 30 in Mumbai.

The CLP crucial meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, wherein the members would shortlist the candidates for Panjim and Valpoi by-elections, due in next three months and also to chalk out strategy for the upcoming monsoon session beginning from July18.

CLP chief Chandrakant Kavalekar said that all the 16 MLAs from Goa and the congress legislators of Maharashtra would be meeting Meira Kumari on June 30 in Mumabi, extending full support to her candidature.

The President elections are scheduled on July 17. The Narendra Modi led NDA government has fielded Ram Nath Kovind.

Kavalekar said that CLP meeting scheduled on Wednesday will shortlist the candidates for Panjim and Valpoi by-elections and the same would be submitted to High Command for the decision.

It is been learnt that former Congressman Atanasio Monserrate will be re-entering into the party as their Panjim candidate against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. On the other hand, Congress has zeroed on Roy Naik, son of MLA Ravi Naik, against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in Valpoi.

This would be the first CLP meeting after party president Luizinho Faleiro tendered his fresh resignation directly blaming “some senior leaders” for his decision.

“The circular is a dictatorship of the Government which will not be accepted. We will also take up the issue in the Assembly,” Kavalekar said.
