TIGRESS ‘SANDHYA’ DIED IN BONDLA ZOO

Panaji (GOA): Sandhya, the tigress, who was left alone for past six month following death of tiger Rana, on Wednesday, too passed away due to old age.

The tigress had lived 14-years and four month and the death is attributed to natural cause.

“Tigress named “Sandhya” from Bondla zoo has expired today. The death could be attributed to natural cause as she was 14 years and 4 months of age,” the press statement issued by the government reads.

Sandhya was born in February 2003.

In December last year, Rana, the male tiger died also due to old age. He was little over 16 years of old.

Rana and Sandhya, the first tiger couple in the Bondla Zoo, had arrived in Goa on July 17, 2009, in a friendly exchange for a pair of bisons, the first tiger couple in the zoo. They were brought from Indira Gandhi zoological park, Vizag.
