Five dead, two critically injured in car-truck accident at Corlim

In a major accident that was reported between Old Goa and Corlim on National Highway, five persons including four women were killed, while two were critically injured.

The dead persons include two pedestrians who were walking alongside the road when car which came in an opposite direction rammed on oncoming truck. Three women including a four year old child who was in the car died on the spot.

Two families were travelling in a car when their vehicle collided with the oncoming truck in Corlim village. Amongst dead includes four females including a four year old girl, Manashree Bhoir.

Old Goa police have said that Natalia Pereira and Vrushali Bhoir along with Vrushali’s daughter who were travelling in car  while Ida (full name not known)who was walking along the roadside died in the accident.

Another pedestrian Louis Minguel Menezes also died on the way to the hospital, police said.

Five more from Bhoir and Pereira families are seriously injured and are admitted to Goa medical college and hospital, of whom two are critical.

“The CCTV footage procured from the petrol pump located near the accident spot indicates that the car went on wrong direction, first hit the pedestrians and then rammed onto the truck,” a senior police official said.

Bhoir family is originally from Mumbai and were residing in Goa since last few years, police said.

Meanwhile, State chief minister Manohar Parrikar has called for emergency meeting of traffic officials at his residence tomorrowat 9.30 a.m. “Chief Minister is expected to review the traffic situation in the wake of rising number of accidents on state roads,” official attached to Chief  Minister’s office said.

“Deeply pained to hear about the loss of lives due to the tragic accident. My heartfelt condolences to all affected by this tragedy,” Parrikar has said in the message released today.
