PANAJI (GOA): The month of June has registered an 11 percent deficit in the average rainfall due to the late arrival of monsoon and scarce rainfall.
According to the data available with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state received 803 mm of rainfall against the expected average of 906 mm. North Goa received 883.3 mm of rain, less than the expected 949.9 mm with a deficit of 7 percent while South Goa received 730.5 mm of rain which was very less than the expected 866.5 mm making it an overall deficit of 16 percent.
The reason for this deficit has been attributed to a weak offshore trough current, but the IMD is confident that the rainfall will increase in the coming days.
“The month of June is not very important, we are more focused on the months of July and August and we are sure that the lack of rainfall shall be compensated in these two months,” said IMD Goa director M L Sahu.
The weather forecast from July 1 to 4 is light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places with heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
The IMD recorded a high temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius on Friday.
