73% TURNOUT IN 15 VP WARDS FOR BY_POLLS

Panaji (Goa) The panchayat by-polls held in 15 wards recorded 73.43 percent turnout on Sunday. Total eleven panchayats will be going for counting on Sunday.

The State Election Commission (SEC) office informed that 73.43 percent turnout was recorded in the 15 wards, with total 7801 votes being polled.

The female turnout was recorded at the higher side which was 4098 percent, while the male voter polled 3703 votes.

The Curca- Bambolim panchayat’s Ward I recorded the highest turnout of 94.18 percent, while Penha-de-franca whose Ward III and IX went for polls recorded the lowest turnout of 63.49 percent.

Total 51 candidates are in fray in these 15 wards.

As per the SEC report, the Ward I of the Bastora VP recorded 80.19 percent, Ward I of Anjuna-Caisua witnessed 75.30 percent, Ward VI of Merces polled 69.86 percent, Ward V of Advalpal reported 86.10 percent, Ward V and VI of the Betki-Khandola VP together recorded 83.55 percent, Ward X of Nuvem witnessed 80.97 percent, Ward V and VII of Betalbatim together recorded 69.08 percent, Ward V of Chandor saw 69.01 percent and Ward V and VI of Sancoale witnessed 73.95 percent turnout.

A women candidate Leticia Miranda from ward III of Betalbatim panchayat is elected unopposed.

The counting on Sunday will take place at Bicholim Mamlatdar office, Sports Complex, Peddem, Pharmacy College- Panaji, Ponda mamlatdar office, South Goa District collectorate building and for MPT Institute hall at Mormugao.

It may be recalled that the High Court had stayed the elections in these 15 wards, following four separate petitions filed challenging the delimitation and reservation process undertaken by the government.
