Begum Jaan, a movie in which a female plays protagonist, it is a male antagonist who steals all the attention and that too he is none other than Chunky Pandey who delivers the stunner. Pandey, who just managed survive in the Bollywood all these years doing small side roles, took the audience by surprise in Begum Jaan when he portrayed the character of a cruel goon called Kabir. What’s even more stunning is Pandey’s look in the film. One may not recognise him when he appears for the first time on the screen, but when we realise who is playing this scary character, the only thing that runs through our mind will be, “is this the same guy who sang ‘laal dupatte waali tera naam toh bata’ in the 1993 film Aankhen or is this the same guy who played the funny character of ‘Aakhri Pasta’ in the Housefull film series.”  One thing is for sure whenever we see actors in a different avatar, they do have a powerful impact.

Credit must also be given to director of the film Srijit Mukherji who managed to pull out a stunning performance from Pandey.

We have seen actors who have played certain off-beat roles and also do justice to the character. Who would forget the strict women’s Hockey coach from the film Chak De India played by Shahrukh Khan. Khan, who usually plays a fun loving heart throb in most of his films delivered an impressive performance in this role.

Maybe this was the role which Pandey always needed to prove himself, let’s hope this is the turning point in his career.
