Calangute (Goa): Two tourist police unit constables were assaulted on duty today at Calangute beach in the evening while they were performing their duty by 11 tourist persons, all native of Haryana and Delhi.
It is reported that at around 15:45 hrs today a group of 11 tourists were drinking alcohol on the beach and creating nuisance. As such two police constables namely Sandesh Chodankar and Ladu Had went to the group and requested them not to drink alcohol and stop creating nuisance on the beach.
As such all the tourists under the influence of alcohol started hurling abusive words towards the constables and further assaulted the Constables physically due to which they sustained injuries. Seeing the tourists assault the constables on uniform other tourists on the beach gathered around.
Further the constables contacted on 100 number of Police control room and accordingly local police of Calangute police station reached and the spot and all the 11 tourists were apprehended and brought at police station and placed under arrest under section 143, 147, 504, 323, 332, 353 r/w 149 IPC.
The tourists were remanded to judicial custody by the Judicial magistrate first class. All the tourists namely Manchand Singh, Anil Kumar, Satbir, Shashi Kumar, Subhash Singh, Anil Kumar Singh, Sunil Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Deepak Singh, Satanam Singh and Sandeep Singh were sent for alcohol medical examination at District Hospital, Mapusa and than produced for remand.
This is a case of tourists taking law for granted and not having respect for law and the police and as such necessary legal action has been initiated against the culprits. Further investigation is under progress with PSI Kirtidas Gaude under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi.
