Panaji (GOA): After failing to form the Government despite having the clear mandate, the Congress party is now stated to make ‘desperate’ attempt to topple the BJP led coalition government in the State.
The Congress MLAs have already started holding secrete meetings to get back support of the non BJP MLAs who are part of Manohar Parrikar led government. However, there is no clarity as whether the attempts would grain fruits, considering that Congress himself admit about ‘no positive’ vibes from the coalition members.
Speaking to reporters, AICC secretary Girish Chodankar said that party will not compromise on its polices, principles and the promises it made to people before polls, to form the government. “We are not desperate to form the government but definitely desperate to topple the BJP led coalition government,” he said.
Congress through its legislative wing (CLP) is making all attempts to ensure party form the government, he said admitting that there are no positive vibes coming from those members who are in coalition.
“Congress will make all attempts. But so far, there are no such intimations coming from coalition members in the government,” Chodankar informed.
During the recently held State assembly election, Congress won 17 out of 38 assembly seats it contested, while BJP was reduced to 13.
However, despite having the largest number, Congress failed to form the government. BJP along with MGP, Goa Forward Party and Independent, managed to have a coalition government.
Currently, Congress is reduced to 16 post resignation of its MLA Vishwajit Rane, who is now with BJP. The ruling saffron party’s number also came down to 13 after Panaji MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar resigned to pave way for Parrikar to contest by-polls from the constituency.
