MAH: FOUR ARRESTED FOR CARRYING BEEF IN PUNE

PUNE: In two different incidents, the police have arrested four peoplefor carrying 1050 kgs of beef. Yerwada police arrested two for transporting 1000 kgs of beef from Osmanabad to Mumbai, while Faraskhana police apprehended two for selling 50 kgs beef in Pune market.
The Yerwada police seized 1000 kgs of beef that was being transported from Osmanabad to Mumbai via Pune in a car (MH-17-BD-3154) at 4 am. The driver and one other person in the car gave evasive answers when the police grilled them about what they were carrying. But later they confirmed that they were transporting beef from one Amjadbhai in Osmanabad to a Babalu Seth in Mumbai. Amjadbhai had killed 11-12 bulls to get 1000 kgs of beef that is worth Rs 60000-70000.
“Yerwada police has arrested Mohammed Arif Ahemedlal Qureshi (37) and Mohammed Arif Dilbafar Khan (25), under relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Meanwhile, the Police has sent a team to nab Babalu Seth from Mumbai and Amjadbhai from Osmanabad,” said inspector Mukund Mahajan
In another case, Farashana police seized 50 kgs of beef being taken to sell in Pune market in two vehicles.
“After receiving information from our sources, we intercepted two vehicles near Faraskhana, that were taking beef to sell. The drivers of the vehicles revealed that it was beef and they took us to the shop where a cow was killed. We found more beef at the shop, and also found bones and the skin of a cow. We have arrested two persons namely Abrar Salim Khan (42) and Nadim Qureshi (32) from the shop, under relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,” said Balkrushna Ambure, police inspector, Faraskhana.
