Curchorem (Goa): Perhaps unknown for the kind of crime that he has committed 50-year-old Francis Pereira who is arrested for desecrating the Holy Crosses showed no remorse after his arrest.

“What I did was not to create any enemity. I used to see the Cross and hit it. I used to bomb it,” said the accused who was seen all smiling even after his house was raided by police at Curchorem this morning.

“I have not killed anyone. I can pay the damage caused to the Crosses. I have money in my bank,” said Pereira before being whisked into the police station by cops.

Goa police can now breathe easy after the arrest of Pereira as one of the blind case of series of desecrations have been solved.

“With his arrest we will be able to crack down over 150 cases of desecration of religious places reported in last 15 years,” Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas told reporters at Curchorem.

Director General of Police Muktesh Chander said that the accused during his interrogation has revealed that he wanted to continue desecrating religious places in the State. “He had future plans of desecrating statues and religious structures,” the DGP told reporters.

State Agriculture minister Vijai Sardesai talking to reporters said that our faith and confidence in State police in investigation of desecration cases has been vindicated with them arresting the accused.
