Vasco (Goa): Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that the act of series of desecrations seems to be “a solo act.”
“As of now it appears to be a solo act. But we can’t totally rule out involvement of others…. or it need not be a participatory involvement but support of different kind,” Parrikar told reporters after State police arrested 50-year-old man Francis Pereira for series of desecrations of religious places including Holy Crosses.
Parrikar said even after the arrest, police would continue the vigil in the places of religious worship.
Reacting to the breakthrough by police, Parrikar said “as a chief minister and home minister, I was very confident that we will crack it.”
“We were going in a very scientific way. We have done lot of data mining, technology use, as well as many other techniques which normally any investigation agency uses,” he said.
Justifying his stand why he was not favouring inquiry by CBI into these cases, Parrikar said “the reason why I said CBI is not required is because CBI is not a policing agency, it is investigation agency and this (desecration cases) required policing,” he added.
“You require to track movement of vehicle. All those aspects we have taken into consideration during the current investigation,” the chief minister said.
“We have also taken into consideration which were the vehicles near desecration site visiting every day. All this data was mined and properly analysed,” he added.
Goa was witnessing series of cases of desecration in the recent past. State police who have arrested the man last night has claimed that he is involved in more than 150 such cases over last 15 years.
