Margao (Goa): After being arrested while trying to desecrate Holy Cross at Macazana, Curtorim, it is a beginning of unending journey for Curchorem resident Francis Pereira.
With police claiming his involvement in over 150 cases of desecrations reported in the State during last 15 years, it would be hopping police stations for the 50-year-old taxi owner, who has already served the sentence for attempt to murder.
Curchorem police who have arrested the accused are currently beginning their investigation about the incidents reported in their jurisdiction. To start with, the mass destruction of gravestone in the cemetery reported this month would be the first case against him.
Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas stated 150 cases of desecrations are being investigated against him. “This means we will have to book 150 different offences and 150 different chargesheets,” he said.
Though special investigation team was formed to crack down the cases of desecration, individual police stations would be investigating the cases which are registered in their jurisdiction.
Pereira who was looking all smiles and without any remorse after his arrest yesterday will have to be now be spending his time in different police station lock ups as he and when he would be sent on remand until he gets relief from the Court, which seems to be difficult.
