Porvorim (Goa): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State legislative assembly that FIR against Sadhvi Saraswati for her statement against the beef eating habit was not registered because “the speech as reported did not had any issue on religious sentiments.”
“The speech as reported do not have any issue on religious sentiment, nor any complaint has been received by police,” Parrikar told the House in a written reply today.
The question was tabled by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar who had asked the reasons for not filing an FIR till date against Sadhvi Saraswati for the comments made during All India Hindu Convention.
Parrikar who is also State Home minister in the reply has said “various Newspapers reported on the matter regarding her demand on beef consumption.”
He said no complaint has been lodged nor any religious matters were reported in the said media report.
Sadhvi while addressing All India Hindu Convention at Ramnathi in June had said that those who consider eating beef as a status symbol should be hanged.
“I would recommend the Government of India that those who consider it as a status symbol to eat the meat of one’s own mother should be hanged in public. Then only people will realise that it is our duty to protect ‘gau mata’,” she had said.
