GOA SESSION: OUT OF 89 MINING LEASES RENEWD, 48 ARE OPERATIONAL

Porvorim (Goa): There are 89 mining leases which are renewed of which 48 are operational, State legislative assembly was told today.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said there are 277 valid iron ore mining leases in the Sate of Goa. “So far 89 mining leases are renewed and 188 leases have got benefit of deemed extension as per Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015,” he said.

He told the House today that 188 mining leases which are not renewed by the State government would be auctioned when they expire in the year 2020.

“The Government is planning to auction those mining leases, which are expiring on March 31, 2020,” Parrikar has said in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House today.
