MAH: MAN RAPES MENTALLY CHALLENGED GIRL

PUNE: In a shocking case, a 65-year-old man raped a 24-year-old mentally challenged girl in Pune on July 19. The police have arrested the accused.
Ashok Gangaram Shelar (65), a labourer, who stays at Tadiwala Road, knew that his neighbour, a 24- year-old girl, was mentally challenged. The mother of the girl, who is also a labourer, goes to work during daytime. When the mother was away, Shelar asked the girl to come over to his place so that they could talk. The girl, as she was mentally challenged, and used to call the man uncle, went to his house.
He asked her to sweep the floor of his house, and when she was sweeping the floor he raped her. The girl did not understand what was happening with her. It started to pain her body and hence she asked for help. Meanwhile, her sister who is married and stays nearby heard her voice. The girl explained what happened to her. The sister and the mother after hearing the story of the girl understood what happened, and approached the police.
S T Chavan, police sub inspector, Bundgarden police station, said, “The mother of the victim has lodged FIR against the accused. We have booked him under Indian Penal Code 376 (L) for rape. We have produced him in the court today and have received seven days custody. Meanwhile, the girl was sent to Sassoon Hospital for medical checkup.”
