PUNE: A cadet of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Alekh Jaiswal, who studied in fifth term of the three year course at the prestigious academy. “He was found hanging in his room on the ground floor of the ‘H’ squadron at 5.15 pm. The cadet was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital, Khadakwasla, but could not be saved”, a statement from the defence PRO stated.
“Alekh Jaiswal had interacted with other cadets around 4.30 pm, and after sometime his body was found hanging. We are conducting enquiry about what led him to take this extreme step,” an NDA official said.
The NDA is a tri-service training academy for officers. After completing three years training here, cadets join their respective service academy for one year before being commissioned in the armed forces.
The local police and parents of the deceased have been informed about the tragic incident. Jaiswal was a Navy cadet and was pursuing BSc (computer science). He had joined the academy after completing studies at the Sainik School, Ambikapur.
