Panaji (Goa) Social activist Aires Rodrigues today filed petition before Bombay High Court at Goa seeking to initiate suo-moto contempt proceedings against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for his statement on the Court.

In the petition that was filed today, Rodrigues has said “Parrikar has malafiedly and very high handedly been repeatedly wrongly accusing the Bombay High Court at Goa of having directed that the sixth off shore casino owned by Golden Globe Hotels Private Limited be allowed.”

The social activist has claimed that Parrikar has been stating that it was due to the intervention of the court that the sixth off shore casino owned by Golden Globe Private Limited was allowed in the River Mandovi.

The casino vessel which was heading towards River Mandovi from Mormugao Harbour has currently got stuck at Aguada sand bar and has been grounded at Miramar beach near here.

“It is a fit case for the High Court to initiate suo-moto contempt proceedings against chief minister Manohar Parrikar as he has demeaned the Majesty of this Honourable Court by making wild, unwarranted and patently false allegations against the Highest Court of the State.”

Rodrigues has stated in his petition that “the official records clearly demonstrate that it was Goa government that has permitted the sixth casino after officially receiving Rs 44 crore.”

“On August 1, 2016, Dattaprasad Lawande, the then Additional Advocate General who is now the Advocate General of Goa had stated before the Court (High court) that a representation dated April 4, 2016 had been received from Golden Globe Hotels Private Limited seeking renewal of the casino licence for the years 2011 to 2016 and that the State government had favorably considered that representation subject to the payment of the annual recurring fees with interest for all the five years from the year 2011-2016,” the petition has said.

Rodrigues has said “it is thus very inappropriate for chief minister who now stands cornered and exposed to attempt to push the buck and falsely blame this Court for a wrongly act committed by the BJP government.”
