Panaji (Goa) The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for by-election in Panaji and Valpoi constituencies. Both the constituencies will go for poll on August 23, while counting would be held on August 28.
Vishwajit Rane who had got elected on Congress ticket from Valpoi constituency had resigned in March to join BJP. He is currently minister in Manohar Parrikar led cabinet.
The by-election for Panaji constituency was necessitated after BJP MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar vacated the seat to make way Manohar Parrikar to be member of legislative assembly.
Congress has hinted that it will field Roy Naik in Valpoi while candidate for Panaji is yet to be decided.
