PANAJI (GOA) Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday ruled out to make any change in the Government’s Grant-in-aid scheme (medium of instruction) for the schools.
Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly that henceforth no new permissions to the English medium primary schools will be granted with preference be given to schools with Marathi and Konkani as medium of instruction.
“There will be no change in grant in aid policy,” Chief Minister said even as the legislators both from ruling and opposition benches demanded that the choice of medium of instruction should be given to the parents.
“I want all the MLAs to be united in strengthening the education sector,” he said.
Parrikar, who is also Minister for education, announced to identify new land for setting up Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Goa, within next three months with the actual construction work to commence in one year’s time.
A land at Sanguem-Curchorem border is been asked to demarcate by deputy collector south for the purpose, he said.
