SEVEN CANDIDATES IN FRAY FOR BY-POLLS AFTER SCRUTINY OF NOMINATIONS

Panaji (GOA) Total seven candidates including Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane are left in fray for the upcoming August 23 by-elections for Panaji and Valpoi assembly constituency.
After scrutiny, four nominations were declared null and avoid. The withdrawals of nominations, if any will take place on Wednesday.
From Panjim assembly seats the candidates who are in fray are Parrikar (BJP), Girish Chodankar (Congress), Anand Shirodkar (Goa Suraksha Manch) and Kenneth Silveira (Independent).
From Valpoi, the candidates are Rane (BJP), Roy Naik (Congress), and Rohidas Gaonkar (Independent).
There are three political parties and two independent candidates in the battle field.
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) device would be used for the polling purpose.
Total 51,032 voters are eligible to cast their vote during the by-election as the electoral roll published in January, this year.
The counting of votes will take place on August 28.
The Valpoi assembly seat had fallen vacant after resignation of then Congress MLA Rane on March 16. BJP MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar had tendered his resignation on May 10 paving way for Parrikar to re-contest.
