Panaji (GOA) The State run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday launched three environmental friendly buses to be running on bio gas and ethanol.
The first of its kind bus transport system in the State was flagged off by Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha, who too experienced the ride from Adil Shah Palace to Raj Bhavan.
The bus service, which will ply on different routes across Goa, is being introduced by Scania India Pvt. Ltd. The launch of these services makes Goa the second place in India after Nagpur to introduce Ethanol powered buses on its roads.
All three buses launched in Goa run on bio fuels which emit fewer greenhouse gases and cause minimal damage to the environment.
“The transport system using bio gas and ethanol buses would bring comfort to Goa and would help reduce environmental pollution in the state,” Governor said.
Sinha further said that this is a pilot project being undertaken in Goa which can be adopted in the other states in India as well.
The Managing Director of KTCL Derick P Neto said that the time has come to preserve the natural beauty that Goa is known for by switching to non-polluting transport solutions. “We have introduced only three buses on pilot basis. The success of the same will help us to expand the facility,” he said.
The Managing Director of Business Unit, Scania Commercial Vehicles India, Mikael Benje said, “India’s commitment to bio fuels is commendable and we are delighted at this opportunity to help Goa make the transition to green fuel.”
