GOA: 4TH RASIK PAINGUINKAR MEMORIAL BADMINTON; DOUBLE CROWNS FOR AASHRUN, TANISHA, ARJUN

FATORDA (GOA): Aashrun Gautam, Tanisha Crasto and Arjuna Fallary won double crowns each at the 4th Rasik Painguinkar Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament organised by Rasik Memorial Trust in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association and SAG, at Multipurpose Hall, Fatorda. Aashrun eased to a 21-7, 21-11 win over Yash Kunkalienker to win the under 19 boys’ singles title. Later, Aashrun pairing up with Shubham Kumar in U-19 boys’ doubles were stretched to their limits before pulling off a 21-10, 17-21, 21-16 win over local favourites Yash Kunkalienker and Arjun Fallary.
Meanwhile, Tanisha won the girls’ U-17 and U-19 singles titles. In U-17, she was in cruise control against Yasmin Sayed who she defeated 21-16, 21-12. The U-19 was a much tougher contest for Tanisha especially in the second set but she prevailed to a 21-9, 21-19 win over Anjana Kumari.
In boys’ under 17 singles, a confident Arjun Fallary upset top seed Sushil Nayak 21-19, 21-14 to romp home victorious. In U- 17 boys doubles, Arjun Fallary / Curt Coutinho beat Sushil Nayak / Rudra Dukle 24-22, 21-19 to emerge winners. Ishan Verma from BITS Pilani Institute won the men’s singles title in the non-ranking category in an engaging 3 set duel with veteran player and former Goa state champion Sandip Kanji.
