State health minister Vishwajit Rane today appealed all the government doctors “not to succumb to the pressures asking false medical certificates however influential the person who is demanding it be.”
In his first ever interaction with the medical officers from across all the state run hospitals and medical facilities, Rane cautioned them against falling for any kind of pressures which are unethical to their profession.
“Recently I have come across an incident wherein an influential authority asked the doctor to issue false medical certificate to put someone in trouble. Please do not fall for the pressures. Whoever might request you, be upright in your functioning,” the health minister said during his half an hour address to the medical officers in Panaji.
The minister said he would never call any doctor for any kind of unwarranted favour. “You will not get a call from me to put someone in trouble or get some kind of certificate signed. It is important that we operate in transparent fashion in our work,” said Rane.
He also asked the medical officers to draw a roadmap for their functioning, which would be followed giving directions to the health care services in the state.
“Come up with the roadmap listing out what is required for your health centre or hospital. We will try to fulfill all the requirements in phased manner. We might not complete the wishes over night but certainly will try to fund all the requirements under various schemes,” the minister said.
He said the roadmap should be ready by May 15 after which it’s implementation will be initiated by health department.
During the interaction, the minister also asked the medical officers to furnish him the details about the requirement of each health centre and hospital including the shortage of medicines.
