DRY-DAYS ANNOUNCED IN NORTH GOA

Panaji (GOA) In the wake of upcoming by-elections in Panji and Valpoi assembly constituency, the Dry-Days are declared in North Goa from August 21 evening to August 24 midnight.
August 28, the counting day is also declared as dry-day.
The polling will take place on August 23, while the campaigning will come to an end on August 21 at 5.00pm.
The North district magistrate has imposed section 144 of CrPC while prohibiting any assembly of five or more persons (includes contesting candidates and workers) and holding any procession or rally under the garb of house to house visits or corner meetings and to prevent creation of any nuisance and law and order problem from 5 pm of August 21 to midnight August 23, in Panjim and Valpoi assembly constituency.
In a bid to ensure there is no distribution of cash or other items, the candidates are asked not to ply their campaigning vehicles during the period.
“All the licensed premises for the sale of liquor will remain closed from from 5 pm of August 21to midnight August 24 and throughout day and night on August 28 in view of polling and counting of votes for Bye Election,” it stated.
The licensed premises having license for Bar and Restaurant are allowed to keep the Restaurant open for serving food only.
Also, the bars, hotels and restaurants within 200 meters of polling booth will have to remain close on the polling day.
