Panaji (GOA) I lost last election because Manohar Parrikar told people of Panaji that he will come back to Goa, says former Congress MLA Atanasio Monserrate.
Monserrate, who contested the February 2017 assembly election as Independent candidate with backing from Congress, lost by 1000 votes to BJP’s Siddharat Kuncolienkar.
After ruling Taleigao and St Cruz, Monserrate was out of power.
“I lost election last time because Parrikar went around telling the people of Panjim that he will be coming back to Goa. He told that he is making Siddharth to contest here so that he will vacate seat for me,” Monserratte told reporters.
“On that assurance only, Siddharth was elected. Now as Parrikar has come back, I am sure that he is going to get support. The margin which he used to get he will get same margin or more than that,” he said.
The former expelled Congress leader has now joined the ruling coalition Goa Forward Party (GFP) and has extended full support to Parrikar for Panaji by-election scheduled on August 23.
