Panaji (Goa): As the crackdown on drug menace continues, Panaji police have arrested a Maharashtra native for allegedly possessing drugs.
The alleged drug peddler Ramesh Chawan, 19, was caught with grass luke substance suspected to be ganja (390 gms) worth Rs 40,000 approx. The raid was conducted at Miramar today.
Following two deaths of tourists suspected due to drug overdose, nearly 11 days ago, the government has directed the police to clamp down on all drug related activities and arrest drug peddlers. The Kerala and tamil Nadu tourists were died in the parking lot at decorate night parties, which were suspected to be drug laced. In a high level meeting of Director General of Police Muktesh Chander with his subordinates, the police force is instructed to ensure Goa is free of drug menace. In the last one week, over half a dozen drug raids have been carried out along the coastal belt while the Panaji drug raid is the first in the interior.
